(June 17, 2005) Apartment fire extinguished quickly
No one was hurt by a Latham Street fire which started after an oven was turned on with Tupperware containers inside.
On the morning of June 10, firefighters received 911 calls of a fire at a three-story apartment complex at 1969 Latham St.
They arrived at 8:47 a.m. and found smoke coming from the second floor of the building. The family had already evacuated and the fire was extinguished just after 9 a.m.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from damaging other units in the complex, said department spokesman Lynn Brown.
"We were lucky we were able to get there quickly, get the fire out, and prevent it from spreading," Brown said.
It was determined the Tupperware containers were being stored in the oven, Brown said. The family apparently forgot they were there when the oven was turned on.
