Lancer golfer falls short in bid for U.S. Open

Two St. Francis golfers, Joseph Bramlett and Chris Jensen, tested their talents against elite competition last week and showed why the Lancers are looking forward to a standout season in 2006.

Bramlett, the Central Coast Section and CIF-Northern California Champion, attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open by entering a 36-hole sectional in Littleton, Colorado on June 6. With only the top scorer to advance to the country's most prestigious golf tournament, Bramlett failed in his ultimate goal. Even so, his score of 79-70-149 topped that of 15 golfers in the field of 28 at the Columbine Country Club on June 6.

Meanwhile, Jensen finished in a four-way tie for second place in the Boys State Championships. Jensen, along with the rest of the field, took advantage of Bramlett's decision to forgo the CIF tournament and challenged for the only major title his teammate had not claimed. Jensen's 2-under par round of 70 at Poppy Hills Golf Course on June 8 was one stroke shy of that of Bellarmine's Daniel Lim. With both Bramlett and Jensen to return as seniors next year, St. Francis golf will be fortunate to led by two of California's top performers.
