Los Altos the friendliest city?

Editor:

Last week's Los Altos Town Crier cites and headlines a study naming Los Altos as "The Friendliest City."

Fortunately for our city council, one of the criteria necessary was not tolerance, for that would have necessitated the qualifier "except for certain minorities such as gays."

Having just returned from a wonderful trip to the Civil War Battlefields, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address resonates in my mind:

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal."

As the insightful June 10 editorial in the Voice stated, declaring a Gay Pride Day or Month doesn't mean the city endorses the gay lifestyle. Intolerance and bigotry are such hate-filled concepts to model for our children and grandchildren; I am certain that we as a city all have more substance and self-worth than those whose irrational fear engenders such attitudes.
