Mountain View bakery opens retail outlet

The ever-popular Esther's German Bakery plans to open its first retail store this August in Midtown Palo Alto.

The store, located at 2737 Middlefield Road, will open in a former photo shop and sell "cakes, breads, rolls, pastries and, of course, pretzels," according to Esther Nio herself.

Esther and her husband, Robert, say they chose Palo Alto as a location because it is their hometown and it's a "great, cosmopolitan city" in which a German bakery will fit well.

Esther's breads, pretzels and pastries are currently available at Draeger's, the Milk Pail and several local farmers markets. The baked goods will still be made in Mountain View. -- Jenny Baer
