Josephine Valente

Josephine Valente, a mother of six Bay Area residents with many family members in Mountain View, passed away July 23 in Santa Clara. She was 87.

Born on June 2, 1918 in Bristol, R.I., Valente grew up with nine siblings. Her mother instructed her in cooking gourmet Italian meals, with many of the recipes passed on by family tradition. She moved west after marrying Vincent Valente, and took pride in entertaining family and friends in her South San Francisco home.

Valente was an avid piano player, and passed her talents on to some of her descendents. She regularly attended church, and enjoyed live entertainment ranging from parades and classical musicals to her grandchildren's school plays.

She is survived by four sons and a daughter, Mountain View resident Margaret Renner, as well as fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held July 27 at St. Simon's Catholic Church in Los Altos. -- Jenny Baer
