Ronald Milton Mende
Ronald Milton Mende, a Mountain View resident who worked in the semiconductor industry for 32 years, died suddenly on Aug. 21 in Carmel while attending a classic car exhibition.
Mende was born in St. Louis, Mo., and graduated from the University of Missouri. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Harvath Mende, as well as his daughter, Renee.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Sept. 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Thomas Fogarty Winery Hill House, 19501 Skyline Blvd. in Woodside. In lieu of flowers, Mende's family prefers memorial contributions to Community Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care Program, P.O. Box HH, Monterey, CA 93942 or to Make-A-Wish Foundation, 235 Pine St., 6th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94104.
Bertie Shaw
Bertie Shaw, a longtime Mountain View resident who opened cafeterias in the Mountain View-Los Altos High School District and managed them for decades, died at her home on Sept. 1. She was 96.
Shaw was born in Franklin County, Ark. and grew up among seven siblings. She married Luther Shaw and moved to California, where she got into food service for schools. Shaw supervised high school cafeterias for more than 30 years in Mountain View, and opened cafeterias at Los Altos and Awalt high schools. She retired as Food Services Director for the district in 1974.
Shaw is survived by her daughter Eddie Shaw, son Herman Shaw, three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Church, 1201 S. Winchester Boulevard, San Jose at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12.
