Library readies for centennial celebration
(September 16, 2005) By Jenny Baer
To commemorate its 100th birthday, the Mountain View Public Library will offer a day-long party on Sept. 24, as well as a little forgiveness.
Next Saturday's celebration will begin at 10 a.m. in Pioneer Park. Mayor Matt Neely will preside in a ceremony, and a crabapple tree will be planted in the park to commemorate one that stood in front of the old library building. Family entertainment will include storytelling, music and a reunion of those who have attended the library's "story time" over the years.
Also in honor of its birthday, the library will waive fees on all overdue items from Sept. 19 through 25. Community members are encouraged to return any long overdue items during that time.
Patrons will also be able to preview a new CD-ROM of local history, including library history, and attend guided tours of the library and its online research databases.
The community is encouraged to record memories of the Mountain View Library in a scrapbook that will be housed in the library's history center. Submissions to the memory book may be made in person or online at the library's Web site, http://library.ci.mtnview.ca.us.
