Aquathon to raise funds for rehab group
Bay Area residents are hoping to make a splash this weekend by raising money for people with disabilities. The Community Association for Rehabilitation (CAR) is hosting an aquathon -- a 350-person continuous swim relay.
Teams are made up of community members, the families of people with disabilities and a group of developmentally disabled children. In addition, employees from a number of corporations -- including Alza, Intuit, Siemens Acuson and Google of Mountain View -- are participating.
The aquathon takes place at the San Jose State University Aquatic Center, 290 S. Seventh St. in San Jose, this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with an awards ceremony to follow. Food and a band round out the event.

MV resident makes Stanford Hall of Fame
Mountain View resident and former Stanford football player Chuck Evans will be inducted into Stanford University’s athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 30, along with a group of ten other former student athletes and coaches.
Evans was a four-year letter winner and a three-year starter as a defensive tackle who went on to play in the NFL for a few years. He currently works as senior vice president of a securities firm in San Jose and coaches his son’s baseball team. In addition, Evans has helped raise millions of dollars for Stanford University and its athletics department over the past 25 years.
The ten other 2005 inductees include former men’s basketball coach Mike Montgomery, who now coaches the Golden State Warriors, and a group of Olympic gold medalist rowers.
