Eagles football still in the zone
Los Altos continued its red-hot streak, thumping visiting Monta Vista 40-7 at Foothill College on Oct. 7 to win its fourth consecutive football game and maintain a share of first place in the El Camino Division.
The Eagles (4-1, 2-0 El Camino) ran off 28 first-quarter points and posted 193 rushing yards to stun the Vikings. Junior linebacker Kellen McColl returned two interceptions for touchdowns, a 75-yarder and a 28-yarder.
After notching at least 40 points in its past two contests, Los Altos will face a much stiffer test when it visits De Anza division contender Palo Alto on Oct. 14.
Spartans volleyball stifled after hot start
After a 3-0 start to its De Anza Division season, Mountain View's girls volleyball team dropped its third consecutive league game. The Spartans' 25-18, 21-25, 25-27, 18-25 loss to visiting Gunn on Oct. 10 came on the heels of defeats to Los Altos and Los Gatos. With half of its league season complete, Mountain View (20-7 overall) has a De Anza record of 3-3.
Lancers football cruises to sixth straight victory
With a 35-7 romp over Mitty on Oct. 7, St. Francis' football team ran its record to a perfect 6-0. In winning their second straight WCAL contest, the Lancers turned to their defense, which held the host Monarchs scoreless until the fourth quarter. Senior running back Desmond Howard posted two touchdowns to set the tone for the St. Francis offense.
