Freestyle High faculty announced Freestyle High faculty announced (October 28, 2005)

By Molly Tanenbaum

Once a twinkle in Superintendent Rich Fischer's eye, Freestyle High is slowly becoming a reality, beginning with last week's announcement of the five teachers who will teach the multimedia curriculum at the new high school in the fall of 2006.

The Mountain View-Los Altos High School District project will include full-time Freestyle teachers Gordon Jack, Leo Florendo, Sue Kefauver and Elizabeth Pedinotti from Los Altos High School. Ron Huizing plans to teach part-time at Freestyle while continuing to work at Mountain View High.

The new faculty has 67 years of experience altogether, and covers five different subject areas with additional backgrounds in multimedia, including journalism, film, visual arts and Web design.

The teachers have already begun to meet with Associate Superintendent Brigitte Sarraf to plan for next year, and to develop recruiting tools to attract sophomores and juniors for the first year in session next fall.

"We are very excited about this new venture as it creates another strong and viable alternative path for our students to find success and become prepared for life after high school in the 21st Century," Jack said.

Freestyle High will start in 2006 at the old Alta Vista campus on Bryant Street in Mountain View with the goal of moving to NASA Ames Research Park in 2010.
