Nine apply for open Foothill-De Anza seat

Nine applications for the late Andrea Leiderman's seat on the Foothill-De Anza Community College board were submitted before the Oct. 21 deadline. On the day after the Nov. 8 election -- or, at the latest, two days after -- the current trustees will appoint one applicant to finish the remaining two years of Leiderman's term.

Applicants include three of the candidates running in the election: Laura Casas Frier, Julia Miller and Bruce Swenson. Incumbent Paul Fong opted out of applying so that he could participate in the appointment process as a current trustee.

The other six community members applying for the seat are Barry Chang of Cupertino, Bob Clifford of Los Altos Hills, Lily Espinoza of San Jose, Fred Fowler of Sunnyvale, Shishir Mukherjee of Cupertino, and Frederic Rounds of Sunnyvale.

The trustees will begin evaluating the applicants during their board meeting on Nov. 9 at 10 a.m.
