Gold Star Gymnastics moves to new home
Gold Star Gymnastics has scheduled an open house this Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. to welcome the public to its new home at 240 S. Whisman Road at Dana Street.
The company moved Tuesday from its former location on El Camino Real into the new 15,000-square-foot building. Owner Pam Evans said the new two-story facility will help Gold Star expand its class offerings, with a goal of serving 2,000 students next year.
The company, which opened its doors on El Camino Real in Mountain View in 1996, has been looking for a bigger space for nearly two years. At one point, they thought they had found a good fit in Palo Alto, but the building needed seismic retrofitting. A second candidate site in Sunnyvale fell through when the company learned that children were not allowed to occupy the building. And the first three locations the company found in Mountain View all had similar restrictions due to their proximity to hazardous materials.
"We're thrilled," said Evans. "After looking for so long, it's wonderful."
Evans has a hired a professional balloon artist and face painter for the Sunday event. For more information, go to www.goldstargym.com.
Global Blends debuts open mic
Since opening just a few doors down from Starbucks two years ago, Global Blends has been making a name for itself among coffee connoisseurs. Now, along with its selection of high-end and fair trade coffee, the shop is adding some entertainment.
Every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m., amateur performers are heading to 650 Castro St. to take advantage of Global Blends' open mic night. Recent acts have included not only instrumental music but rap, stand-up comedy and even puppet shows.
