MV cyclist nets $3,000 in race MV cyclist nets $3,000 in race (November 11, 2005)

Mountain View resident David McCook took second place at the first-ever Red Bull Road Rage event, a sort of extreme competition for cyclists, in Malibu on Nov. 5.

McCook was the second-fastest "downhill descender," and had the fastest speed of the day in the "Avid Brakes speed trap" at 58 mph. He took home $3,000 for the two events.

McCook, a road cyclist, wasn't far behind first-place mountain biker Myles Rockwell in the time trial event, which consisted of a 2.5-mile course with an elevation drop of 2,000 feet, not to mention 49 curves and 120-degree turns around rock faces through Malibu's Tuna Canyon. -- Molly Tanenbam
