Guy Charles Gilman

Guy Charles Gilman, a longtime Mountain View Public Library employee and a gifted pianist, died Oct. 10. He was 71.

Born on Dec. 20, 1933 in Plover, Wis., Gilman studied music education at the University of Wisconsin and received a master's in library science at the University of Minnesota. He later moved to the Bay Area, and served patrons of the Mountain View Public Library for 35 years. Considered the "dean of the reference desk," he was well known for his knowledge of classical music, his professionalism and his dedication to serving the public. He retired in 1990.

Gilman is survived by four sisters, five nieces, six nephews, numerous cousins in Wisconsin and California, and by many dear friends and colleagues.

Friends attended a memorial service in Redwood City on Oct. 30. At Gilman's request, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
