Girls and boys of all ability levels are invited to participate in the Holiday Hoops Basketball Camp hosted by Foothill College in Los Altos Hills.

The camp is designed for players ages 5 to 13. Camp coaches who are members of the Foothill Owls women's basketball team will emphasize fundamentals, team concepts and strategies for full-court play. Two sessions will run from 9:30 to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 22-23. The gym will also be open for additional play on those days from noon to 1 p.m.

The cost per camp is $60 per player, or $110 if a player signs for both camps. The fee includes individualized instruction and a camp T-shirt. To request the camp registration form or for more information, call (650) 949-7356.

Winter safety tips from Red Cross

Oftentimes, the holiday season can mean hazards in the home. According to the American Red Cross, fires during the holiday season injure 2,000 individuals each year. Here are some helpful safety tips from the Palo Alto Area Chapter of the Red Cross to keep you and your family safe this winter:

Keep portable space heaters at least three feet way from anything combustible; make sure smoke alarms are working; have a designated non-drinking driver when going out; do not burn wrapping paper or pine boughs in the fireplace; and never leave lit candles unattended.
