Oftentimes, the holiday season can mean hazards in the home. According to the American Red Cross, fires during the holiday season injure 2,000 individuals each year. Here are some helpful safety tips from the Palo Alto Area Chapter of the Red Cross to keep you and your family safe this winter: Keep portable space heaters at least three feet way from anything combustible; make sure smoke alarms are working; have a designated non-drinking driver when going out; do not burn wrapping paper or pine boughs in the fireplace; and never leave lit candles unattended.
