RotaCare deserving of the attention

Editor:

Thank you for reporting on the RotaCare medical clinic (Dec. 16), which offers health care for uninsured and underinsured people in our community. I've been volunteering at the RotaCare clinic since 1996, so I know first hand the extraordinary need that this clinic fills and the growing demand for its services.

I'd like to acknowledge the many physicians, medical staff and others who contribute generously of their time to this vital clinic, including those from Camino Medical Group, Kaiser Permanente, El Camino Hospital and many individual practices as well as local restaurants who support our operation.

I find it very gratifying to volunteer with the RotaCare clinic because the people we help might not otherwise receive the care they need. Everyone deserves access to health care, regardless of their ability to pay, and on behalf of the RotaCare volunteers, we are proud to help fill this fundamental need. David Quincy, M.D. Medical Director, RotaCare Clinic of Mountain View Camino Medical Group Physician

In support of council's VTA board pick

Editor:

In 2000 I voted enthusiastically for the Measure A "BART tax." The need for a transit connection between the South Bay and the East Bay is clear, and if the experts said that BART was the way to bridge it, I figured they must know what they're talking about.

As time goes on I've realized this trust was misplaced. I've watched the VTA attempt to ditch all other Measure A projects in the name of BART -- and then admit they still can't afford to build it without another tax. I've learned that conventional commuter rail to San Jose is a viable alternative -- one which is backed by transit advocates and environmentalist groups, and which would be considerably cheaper to build.

Frankly, I feel hoodwinked.

The VTA board is in serious need of new thinking and intellectual integrity. I believe Mountain View council member Greg Perry, one of the clearest advocates of alternatives to BART, could bring both. I applaud the council for appointing him as our representative on the VTA board. Nicholas Kibre San Carlos Avenue
