Crime Watch Crime Watch (January 20, 2006)

Assault, El Camino Real and Escuela Avenue, 1/10

A 13-year-old and 15-year-old male were walking on Escuela Avenue the evening of Jan. 10 when a vehicle pulled into the parking lot in front of them. The vehicle contained several males in their late teens.

The occupants of the vehicle called out to the two pedestrians and made comments that police say may have indicated gang involvement. Moments later, the occupants got out of their vehicle, and began hitting and kicking the two pedestrians, according to police. One of the victims also received a superficial stab wound. They escaped their attackers, running from the area and calling the police for assistance. The victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and the suspects fled the area.

Both victims sustained minor injuries and have been treated and released. They described two of the suspects as Hispanic males in their late teens.

Mountain View police said in a release that the incident has not been conclusively linked to gang activity. The department is teaming up with a number of other local groups to present a seminar on gang awareness for parents Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Castro Elementary School.
