Crime Watch Crime Watch (January 27, 2006)

Armed Robbery, East El Camino Real, 1/20

A man entered the Walgreens at 121 E. El Camino Real at about 3:30 in the morning and confronted the store pharmacist with a handgun. He demanded pharmaceutical narcotics, but did not demand any money. Once given the narcotics, the man left the store and fled -- no escape vehicle was seen, and no arrests have been made. He was described as a white male in his 20s or 30s, 6 feet tall and 170 pounds, wearing black pants and carrying a black semi-automatic handgun.

Hit and Run, Montecito Avenue and Sierra Vista Court, 1/16

Mountain View police responded to a hit-and-run report made at 9:53 p.m. on the 200 block of Sierra Vista Court. On arrival, police found a vehicle present but no driver. Police then received a 911 cell phone call from someone in Mountain View who said he had been carjacked in the area of Moffett Boulevard and Middlefield. The description of the caller's car was found to match the car found at the scene of the hit-and-run.

Mountain View police began an area check near the scene and located two people. One was found to be the caller who had reported the carjacking. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had stolen his mother's vehicle and that it was this vehicle that had been involved in the hit-and-run. He and his passenger had then fled, and it was determined that his carjacking call was a false police report.

The suspect, 25-year old Germaine Register, was booked on charges of hit-and-run, driving without a license and false reporting of a crime. His passenger was detained but later released.
