Lancer hoops defeated by CCS best
In the ultra-competitive West Catholic league, the St. Francis girls basketball team had the misfortune of playing the two best teams in the section, No. 1 ranked Archbishop Mitty and No. 2 ranked Sacred Heart Prep, in the same week. Despite gritty performances, the Lancers succumbed by a score of 61-43 in both games.
Brigham, MV vie for top spot
The Mountain View girls basketball team, led by the sensational play of junior guard Laura Brigham, took apart Lynbrook in a 56-34 road win. Brigham scored a season-best 26 points, in what was in many ways a break out performance. The Spartans now hold a 5-1 record in the El Camino league and can take first place in league when they host first place Fremont on Friday night at 6:15.
MV boys soccer ties again
The MV boys soccer team earned their sixth draw game of the season against Gunn on Tuesday. The Spartans and Titans were unable to score. MV has tied a third of its games both in league (4-2-3) and the overall season (7-5-6).
Lady Lancers notch two
The St. Francis girls soccer team at had a solid week, winning both of its games. Thursday's match versus Presentation resulted in a close 1-0 win. On Saturday, the Lancers beat a pesky St. Ignatius team 2-1. After the two wins, St. Francis now improves its record to 8-0-3 in league and 10-1-3 overall and remains in first place.
The Lancers (14-1-4) and Eagles (14-1) now have the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked girls soccer teams in CCS.
Solid week for Eagles boys
Los Altos boys soccer racked up two more league victories last week. Tuesday's game against Wilcox resulted in a 5-1 win. Kyle Macomber, Darren Sweetman, Nery Martinez, James Sweetman and Javier Villanueva all scored goals.
On Thursday, Los Altos easily defeated Lynbrook 6-1. Darren Sweetman scored twice. James Sweetman, Miguel Sandoval, Charlie Sines and Danny Koehler each scored single goals. The Eagles now own a 6-1 league record.
LA boys hoops has good week
Speaking of winning Eagles, the Los Altos boys basketball team won both of its games last week. On Wednesday, the Eagles defeated Santa Clara in a close game 51-50. On Friday night, Los Altos played a close game with Monta Vista that also resulted in a win, 60-52. After losing 6 out of 7 games prior to the SCVAL schedule beginning, the Eagles have won all three of its in-league games.
St. Francis wrestling continues streak
The Lancers soundly put away another WCAL opponent on Tuesday, beating
Archbishop Mitty 39-21. The Lancers were led by pins from Joel Shaw, Trevor
Milligan and Mark Kornei, leaving the team tied for second place with Serra.
