Police were called to Crittenden Middle School on Friday to arrest a 14-year-old boy for angrily throwing a football at another boy's leg during a football game.
Police spokesperson Steve McCoy said school administrators called the police at 2:14 p.m. last Friday to report the incident. The unnamed 13-year-old hit in the leg by the football was uninjured.
There was no real explanation as to why the incident was considered serious enough to involve police. The police report states that the unnamed juvenile suspect appeared "angry." He was arrested for assault and released to his parents.
Crittenden Middle School Principal Karen Robinson did not respond to phone calls by press time.

This sounds nuts...there must have been something scarier about the anger than a thrown football....why do we never hear the entire story, and we're left thinking that whomever called the police was nuts when there may have been a legitimate reason?

I must agree with the other commentors. If this was serious enough to merit calling the police, there must have been more to the story. Or, we may simply be dealing with a principal who does not know how to do their job, such that when anything dramatic challenges them, they simply go to the extreme (as many so-called adults do), crying to their metaphoric mommies, as they themselves were poorly raised to do.

I think the reporters need to dig for more info. If it were really "nothing"...the police would not have arrested him. I've seen heated situations calmed down by the police and people involved...definitely more info is needed, otherwise it's not a worthy story to print.

Alot of racial tension going on at the middle schools in Mountain View. I know from hearing about it from my grandson. Maybe that is what was going on at Crittenden.

This is absurd! What happened to calling the parents? or better yet having the boy sit in the principals office? Was the principal too busy to oversee a student? Sounds like a load of crap...to arrest a kid for throwing a football at another child (who by the way wasn't even injured by it) Amazing what the police officer would do such a thing anyways...see how the tax payers funds are being spent...on little things like angry student throwing a football at the leg of another student...
We need to have more say over what is acceptable since it is our funds that pay for officers...seems these days they are more concerned with their quotas then really protecting the citizens...at least that is my 2 cents about the whole thing...WOW!

it is obvious you do not know Ms. Robinson. She is wonderful Principal and know her job well. She is also very cute. If the ploic were called maybe it was for a reason. How do you know it was not the angry parent who is a sissy that called the police? Leave Ms. Cutie Pie Principle out of the problem or the police. Was the boy really arrested who through the football?

I pulled my son out of Crittenden in his mid 7th grade year. He was sent home from school for wearing a solid color t-shirt (it was green). The man who sent him home said solid color t-shirts meant gang affiliation. That was over 10 years ago and I know the man didn't last at the school for very long. I think he was a vice principal. Karen Robinson was one of my sons teachers and we liked her a lot. I don't see her making decisions in haste.

Mrs. Robinson is a reasonalbe and well-liked principal. My son had her at Crittenden and she was one of the reasons he and many other students are successful. The majority of the students respect her and appreciate her hands-on approach to making Crittenden a safe place for learning and sports. I have to assume that there was certainly something else going on. And as for the comment about calling the parents: Do you have any idea of how many parents are 1) unavailable 2) it is not their problem, have the school handle it 3) their child is perfect... etc. etc. To call the police is pretty drastic and not common practice. Give Mrs. Robinson the credit she deserves and the benefit of the doubt. She would not call the police unless the situation warranted it.

This will make sense when the police start arresting professional athletes for displaying bursts of anger and getting into fights. No one was injured, and we are talking about children here. This is a very sad state of affairs. The children should have been forced to stand up, shake off, and shake hands. Problem solved. Mrs. Robinson should be put on leave IF she was the one who called the police, and the police officer should be as well. They clearly have lost their sense of things. These are not the kind of decision makers we need running this town. Period.
