Foundation awards $1.3 million in local grants

Community-based organizations in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties awarded modest-size grant funds

Sixty-five community-based organizations in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties will receive $1.3 million in modest grants from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the Mountain View-based foundation has announced.

A $5,000 grant was awarded to the Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills for its Healthy Foods, Healthy Families Program, which provides the Community Services Agency of Mountain View's clients with organic produce.

The grants, ranging from $4,000 to $50,000, include one to Palo Alto's Downtown Streets Team that provides jobs for homeless people while they clean up streets in the downtown commercial area.

Of the 65 organizations that will receive grants, 23 provide food, 23 provide shelter, four offer services to prevent homelessness and the remainder offer forms of emergency assistance.
