Police say a 66-year-old Sunnyvale man remains in serious condition after he was struck by a car while riding his bike on El Camino Real in Mountain View on Monday morning.
Just after 9 a.m., the bicyclist was struck on the eastbound side of El Camino Real near Pettis Avenue by a silver Volkswagen Passat station wagon, said police spokesperson Liz Wylie.
The bicyclist was immediately taken to the hospital where he remained on Tuesday in serious condition. "It's safe to say his situation is serious," Wylie said. "He suffered quite a lot of trauma."
"It's too soon to know what happened or who was at fault," Wylie said. "There was no sign of drugs or alcohol on the part of the driver, and she stayed on the scene and was cooperative."
Eastbound lanes continued to be closed as police investigate the incident, causing traffic backups throughout the day.
