Fifty pediatric transplant recipients will go to summer camp with the assistance of the Stanford Blood Center in partnership with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, according to blood center officials.
The Stanford Blood Center will make contributions toward the Annual Solid Organ Transplant Camp for every donor that donates blood between Aug. 22 and Sept. 3 at an SBC center or mobile blood drive. Stanford Blood Center has locations in Mountain View, Palo Alto and Menlo Park.
The camp is for youth ages 8 through 18 who have received organ transplants at Children's Hospital.
"This camp offers a transplant recipients a chance to be a kid and not just a patient, and it provides them the unique chance to meet others like themselves who have gone through similar experiences," blood center spokesman Loren Magana said in a statement.
Blood center officials said the public is invited to assist by scheduling an appointment to donate blood at sbcdonor.org or by calling 888-723-7831.
