The Moffett Field Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) has survived to meet another day. Despite calls to disband, the group will hold another public session this Thursday, Nov. 9.

The RAB is a community group organized in 1994 to help monitor the cleanup of toxic groundwater contaminants left behind after the U.S. Navy exited Moffett Field. More recently, the group has also tracked development in the Moffett area, and it took a prominent role in helping precenting the iconic Hangar One from being torn down entirely.

At a meeting earlier this year, Navy officials shocked RAB members by announcing they would move to disband the group. In the days following, multiple local members of Congress advocated to keep the group in place, at least until a replacement body could be formed.

In an email, Navy spokesman Jim Sullivan said the future of the RAB will be discussed at the Thursday meeting.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9, at the Mountain View Senior Center at 266 Escuela Ave., and is open to the public. An agenda and information packet for the meeting can be found here.

  1. Once a government body is created, you can never get rid of it. We’ll still be arguing about getting rid of the RAB in 2050.

  2. I don’t think this is a government formed group it was locals.
Now they need to go away and let the Government dispose of this property so Google can build it into something useful for our community, like jobs and housing and low income housing and high density housing, and HOUSING! Don’t people know there is a housing crisis that is making it hard for our undocumented workers and their families, to find housing at a price where they can compete with the H1 Visa folks imported to fill the ever growing demand for high tech!

    Go back to sleep!

  3. Ever notice how many people use the Mountain View Voice for therapy? There’s never a shortage of sarcasm.. 🙂
    Thank you MVV
