Bay Area under high wind warning, flash flood watch

National Weather Service advisories issued through Saturday morning

High winds and flash floods are expected to hit the Bay Area on Friday and Saturday as a powerful storm front moves onshore, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service issued a high wind warning for the entire San Francisco Bay Area starting Friday at 3 p.m. through Saturday at 10 a.m. The weather service also issued a flash flood watch for the entire San Francisco Bay Area and Central Coast starting Friday evening through Saturday morning. The winds could blow down trees, limbs and power lines. Power outages will likely occur, the weather service said.

The winds are expected to come from the southeast at 25 to 35 mph with gusts of between 50 and 65 mph, peaking late tonight or early Saturday. Gusty winds will continue into Saturday evening and will subside by Sunday, according to the weather service.

A flash flood watch will also be in effect. Travel through low-lying areas on Friday night and Saturday morning could be hazardous. The weather service warned that motorists should not drive on flooded roads.
