Celebrate Shark Day on the bay

Marine Science Institute hosts event focused on shark appreciation

Budding marine biologists are invited to check out Shark Day at the Marine Science Institute, a celebration of all kinds of sharks, from the great whites in the Pacific to the small leopard sharks that inhabit San Francisco Bay.

Participants can touch live leopard sharks in a teaching aquarium, learn about the vital role of these predators in the ocean ecosystem and make a shark-themed craft.

Shark Day takes place Saturday, Aug. 10, starting at 10 a.m. at Marine Science Institute, 500 Discovery Parkway, Redwood City. Tickets are $10 for members/$20 for nonmembers. Go to sfbaymsi.
