Two men, including one Mountain View resident, were arrested in connection to at least five burglaries from homes and vehicles in Los Altos.
Police received a report that suspicious people were in the 200 block of Hawthorne Avenue in Los Altos at 5:20 a.m. on May 15. When police arrived they found two men, 20-year-old Nathan Hubbard of Mountain View and 20-year-old Isaiah Magee of San Jose, hiding on residential property who were in possession of property from a nearby house.
Officers reported they later found the suspects’ vehicle nearby, which had stolen property from at least five other home and vehicle burglaries inside.
Both Hubbard and Magee were booked into Santa Clara County Jail on charges of burglary, possession, stolen property and conspiracy. The bail for both suspects is set at $150,000.
Another possible course of action they might pursue is a Prop 36 hearing for diversion to drug court, if their alleged crimes are related to substance abuse. They might not do any prison time at all in this case.
I’ve seen it happen in another county where a young man in his 20’s had 3 burglary charges. After being OR’ed and then failing to appear in court, he was eventually arrested on the warrant and held to answer. He successfully won a Prop 36 diversion and was assigned to a residential rehab. He did some county jail time, but no state time.

Those guys are not from Mountain View. They may have moved here from Oakland cuz it is now cheaper to move here then live in Oakland. But not from Mt View. No way.
For what it’s worth I know one of these kids (Nathan) and he’s a good kid recently gone wrong. He grew up in Palo Alto, high school athlete with a loving family. That said, he’s been making a number of really bad decisions over the past couple of years…much to the dismay of his family and now a number of perfectly innocent strangers (victims of his crimes). To the best of his families knowledge he’s never done anything harmful to anyone but himself and his family is currently in shock about these new revelations.
It is ironic that someone mentioned drugs on this post. It is my guess that they were a factor here. But there are no good excuses for his behavior and if I were on of the victims I’d hope they throw the book at him. As one who happens to know Nathan, as a parent who knows that young people can do the dumbest things and be their own worst enemies…I hope this is the wakeup call that he needs to get himself together.
We hope we can save him but ultimately he will need to be accountable/responsible for his actions and make better decisions.
They got in with garage door openers from cars… Not sure of the exact details, but if you get into a car, it’s safe to assume you could get the address off the registration… The DMV needs to rethink requiring the address be on registrations.
Simple solution is to hide it in the car, since you’re not allowed to black out the address. And there’s no evidence that people look up addresses off car registrations that often…. But why make it so easy?
The man that Palo Alto PD shot on Stanford Ave several years ago probably used the registration to steal a second car after he carjacked the owners other car at Target… But in that case for some reason they left the spare key in the other in the car that was carjacked. In the end the other car was stolen right off the driveway and it was the car that the guy ended up being killed in by PAPD.
How do you break into a car without setting off the car alarm….ummm Unless you don’t activate it in your safe neigborhood .
