In honor of Black History Month, Foothill College hosts Core Ensemble’s “Ebony Embers: Vignettes of the Harlem Renaissance,” a chamber-music theatrical concert with vignettes from the lives of African-American poets Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen and Claude McKay and painter Aaron Douglas. The musical score includes jazz works by Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Billy Strayhorn, Thelonius Monk and Charles Mingus as well as concert music by Jeffrey Mumford and George Walker.

Core Ensemble, with its mission of “celebrating diversity through chamber music theatre,” combines live music with other performance elements and educational programs.

The free event will be held Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at Lohman Theatre, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills. Go to Of Ebony Embers.
