Gene Carmen Giannotti
April 22, 1931-April 15, 2017
Menlo Park, California

Gene Carmen Giannotti, born in San Francisco to Felice Giannotti and Julia Basile Giannotti on April 22, 1931, passed away on April 15, 2017.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Joann Klee. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joy; his sisters Judy Gibson and Ginger Juels; his children Tony Giannotti, Chris Giannotti and Mia Giannotti Bard; daughter-in-law Connie LeBaron; son-in-law Buck Bard; and his grandchildren Vincent and Sasha Giannotti and Cody and Connor Bard.

Gene graduated from Serra High School in San Mateo in 1948, where he scored the first varsity football points in Serra’s history. In his early years, he was a pilot, flying solo before even getting his driver’s license.

In 1952, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University. The summer after graduation, he married Joy Baerwald, and they were happily married for over 64 years.

Following college he served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. Gene worked in Management Information Systems (a precursor to today’s modern IT departments) for almost 40 years, retiring from Measurex in 1994.

Besides being an avid golfer, Gene had a regular group of tennis buddies. Always conscious about his health, he jogged daily for over 40 years, graduating to long walks over the past decade. He particularly enjoyed spending long weekends with Joy at their vacation home in Carmel.

Friends and family are invited to the funeral Mass, which will be celebrated at 10:30am on Thursday, April 27, at St. Raymond Church at 1100 Santa Cruz Ave. in Menlo Park, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery and a celebration of life reception.
