Michael Scott Weersing
Feb. 23, 1965-Nov. 12, 2020
Mount Lyford, North Canterbury, New Zealand
Mike passed away at his Mt. Lyford home in New Zealand, close to the soils and landscape he so loved.
Mike attended Portola Valley schools, Woodside High School, and Stanford University. He worked for winemakers in Europe and Australia, then followed his passion to New Zealand with his partner Claudia Elze.
With Claudia, Mike founded Pyramid Valley Vineyards, transforming a sheep farm into a bio-dynamic vineyard. Together they helped transform the New Zealand wine industry and received global recognition for the wines they produced. Mike’s legacy will survive in the vines they cultivated and in the hearts of the many individuals that he touched in New Zealand and during his travels across the world.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Jim. He is survived by his mother Mary Weersing of Pescadero; his brother Rick Weersing and sisters Susan Weersing and Carol Nicholas; his niece McKenna Jacquemet; and his nephews Ryan Jacquemet, Spencer Nicholas, and Emerson Nicholas
