Voices Around Town

What would you change about the education system?

Asked in Downtown Mountain View. Pictures and interviews by Angela Chen.

"I don't think American history is taught enough. There's not enough focus on what's unique about America and the Founding Fathers."

Paul Halpern, Sunnyvale

'There should be more tutorial sessions and extra time for students to talk to teachers. Also, maybe classes should be longer because with the 50-minute sessions we have (at Los Altos High School), it's sometimes not enough to get all the information.

Jasmine Sadrolashrafi, Los Altos

"I think school today is much harder than it used to be, it's more difficult and school should be more personal, with people encouraged to talk to teachers."

Jayme Stotts, Mountain View

"There's not enough choice of classes. In the Mountain View district, there's really only the basics and I'd like a broader choice of subjects."

Michael Capati, Mountain View

"Teachers should get paid more. They should stay more connected with their students, but it's so difficult for them to do with the wages they have, and the little they're paid to essentially raise our children."

Jacota Anansi, Mountain View
