Voices Around Town

When did you develop your political beliefs?

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Pictures and interviews by Emily Efland.

"I first developed my political beliefs when I watched an Al Jazeera documentary called 'Two Schools in Nablus.'"

Tom Birch, San Francisco

"I couldn't vote in the election that got George Bush into office after Ronald Reagan, and that's when I realized I was going to be active in politics and started caring about what was happening, locally and nationally."

Brian Pecko, San Francisco

"When I was growing up there was this massive current of anti-communism from the West, but from my perspective capitalism-imperialism is no worse than communism-imperialism."

Sam Kho, Mountain View

"I started to develop my political beliefs around high school, and for me it was based a lot around my religion."

Ashlin Braddock, Hollister

"I didn't really start being more political until the Bush re-election year. I got really involved on campus in my middle school, we had debates. Ever since than I've definitely been pretty politically conscious."

Ari Jones, Point Richmond
