Voices Around Town

Are you OK with Facebook's privacy policies and controls?

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Photos and interviews by Nick Veronin.

"I realize that means that whatever I put on there is free to pretty much anyone in the world. So, I'm careful about that, but I don't really care."

Caleb Schut, Mountain View

"Everything that I put on Facebook is originally moderated by me, because I don't trust them. So everything I put there is public domain. I'm prepared that my boss will see that, my friends will see that, my parents will see that, my girlfriend will see that."

Dimitry Degtyarev, Moscow, Russia

"Facebook is an incredibly useful resource for me. But privacy issues are a huge concern. It seems like a delicate balancing act for me to be able to meet up with my friends and not having my private data in the hands of Goldman Sachs or whoever."

Sean McLaughlin, Mountain View

"I do care about what personal information does get out to the public. But I think I also have a responsibility to know what my settings are and make active decisions about those things, and being careful and deliberate about what I do place online."

Mai Manchanda, Santa Clara

"My opinion is that Facebook has given enough control to users to monitor their own data. I am generally satisfied with the control I have over my Facebook."

Navneet Aron, Los Altos
