The Sea offers sensuous bounty in rarefied setting

Attention to detail defines excellence. The Sea by Alexander's Steakhouse is all about details: handsome decor, attentive service and everything in between. Unlike the Alexander's Steakhouse in Cupertino, The Sea isn't quite Michelin-star quality yet — that might come with time and consistency — but the overall dining experience is of the highest quality.

Thanks for a thorough (and richly photographed) look at this new restaurant.

Incidentally, for awareness of local restaurant history, this article surpassed the SF Chronicle by identifying Alexander's as a Cupertino enterprise. (Alexander's is that rare accomplishment, a successful original twist on a restaurant genre -- steakhouses -- that prides itself on avoiding originality.)

A recent Chron story on new Peninsula and South-Bay restaurants called The Sea "a seafood spin-off of [Alexander's] San Francisco and Cupertino restaurants." Geographically complete, but historically misleading -- like claiming Thomas Keller created renowned restaurants in "New York and Yountville." He created a renowned restaurant in Yountville, then much later, on the strength of its success, a NYC spin-off -- much as Alexander's expanded to San Francisco in late 2010.
