Voices Around Town

What are your thoughts on the recent revelation of the NSA's surveillance?

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Photos and interviews by Samson So and Elize Manoukian.

"I think it concerns every American and I think our government's been spying on us for 200 years. And they underline it as national security purposes, but actually they have an agenda and they'll never tell us what it is."

Nick Ghilarducci, Mountain View

"I think this kind of thing has been going on since the Patriot Act and I think most people knew it. It's not really a surprise. Ideologically it's very bad, since we're supposed to be a free society, but it practically doesn't matter."

Daniel Friberg, Mountain View

"I don't have a problem with it. For me personally, I would rather have my children be safe and my family be safe, and have my email topics looked at."

Christine Roed, Mountain View

"I might be more worried if I had more to hide. But, like, it doesn't really affect me right now. It's whether that information can be abused to a certain extent. I just don't think people also have as much privacy."

Rosie Altman-Menno, Menlo Park

"In Sweden, I think it's easier to be a whistle-blower and I don't think you'd be prosecuted the same way. We have the same system and wire-tapping as Sweden, but the government tells people about it."

Glenn Persson, Sweden
