Obon festival celebrates MV's Japanese community

The dancers performing Bon Odori, the traditional Obon Festival performance, speak a different kind of sign language. A graceful joining of hands in gassho, a Japanese word meaning "palms together," is a sign of reverence or salutation; an unfolding of the arms, spilling out of brightly-colored silk kimonos, beckons spirits, as well as onlookers, to join in the dance.
