Do toxics regulations do enough to keep our environment, food and products safe?

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Interviews and photos by Daniel DeBolt.

"It definitely concerns me. I know people don't want regulations on their vitamins, but anything can be in there."

Yvonne Choy, San Jose

"I believe the Monsanto Company has a great deal of influence in Washington. They can pretty much decide what gets regulated. They do not consider our welfare."

Carol Watson, Sedona, Ariz.

"I don't really think it's up the government. You do the research and decide if it's positive and healthy for your lifestyle."

DeVonne Golding,San Jose

"Not really. When you walk into Walgreens and look at all the vitamins, it says 'not FDA approved,' but it's on the shelf. You don't know what's in it."

El Mahdi Bouhran, Mountain View

"We used to have regulatory agencies — they've all been bought by corporations. We don't inspect our food anymore — 80 percent of our food is contaminated. They put arsenic in chicken to change its color."

Jim Steeves, Albuquerque
