Voices Around Town

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Photos and interviews by Ray Levy-Uyeda

Should the city government provide housing for low-income people?

"The income gap here is so huge, they definitely deserve some help."

Chloe Loh, Sunnyvale

"If not provide housing, at least give them some assistance. Housing has become so out of reach for average people in the Bay Area. We've got to do something. It's not right that only those who make huge salaries can afford to live here. "

Jenny Mart, Mountain View

"I think so. Because they're human beings."

Irma Van Leeuwen, Sunnyvale

"I think yes, with qualifications. Somebody's gotta pay; usually that means taxes. Who's gonna do it? Then the question is, who is low income? How low is low?"

John Farley, East San Jose

"I think we should. It's a really expensive city. I think they should have the option for people who need it."

Veronica Lee, Los Altos
