Alza: the last of a breed

Many Mountain View nonprofits probably saw it coming when Alza was purchased by the medical conglomerate Johnson and Johnson six years ago. But even so, when the news became official this month that Alza would lay off 600 workers and leave Mountain View forever, it sent a gasp through the community, especially among the groups that Alza has supported over the years.

Nice article, Don. Alza really has been a great corporate citizen.

I'm sure it wasnt your intent, Don, but I dont think that you painted other corporate citizens of MV in a fair light. Synopsys, especially, does more for the community then anyone should expect (no, I dont work for them), and should be recognized for their contribution, not asked to 'step up'. Microsoft, too. (Again, I doubt that was your intent, but that is how your editorial could be read)

We as a community should do more to acknowledge companies like these that add so much to our city. Thanks, Don, for getting it front and center. I look forward to seeing a strong outreach by the Voice into the community as well.
