Voices Around Town

How will the higher payroll taxes affect you?

Asked in downtown Mountain View. Photos and interviews by Ashley Finden.

"I happen to be very fortunate that it's not going to impact me much. I think that it will come to the aid of others and it will make a difference in the world. I think it's well worth it."

Les Taylor, San Jose

"The taxes will cut my weekly pay check and also decrease the amount of income tax I receive."

Audrey Anger, San Francisco

"I am self-employed and so my taxes are going to go up by two percent, very simple. I wish it wasn't happening. Just eliminate the cap on Social Security and that would solve the whole thing."

Jeff Buenz, Palo Alto

"Because we are a military family, a higher tax increase will affect us, but not as much as I guess other people. We actually got an increase in housing. So our benefits are pretty good."

Lorena Gomez, Mountain View

"I just kind of feel probably gypped out of my $30. I really don't understand why in the middle of a recession the people who make the least are the ones who are flipping the bill."

Dylan Baker, Campbell
