Fabulous prefab

Original post made on Aug 22, 2007

Mountain View may soon be the only Bay Area city to have a genuine 1930s-era prefab diner, trucked out from the East Coast by local auto shop owner Larry Mertl and his partner, Wayne Day.

This is exactly what the Bay Area needs to revive a sense of real living. I hope Mr. Mertly succeeds beyond his wildest dreams, and brings another, maybe a few miles north to Redwood City!!
Looking forward to seeing Food Network show up to show off the place!

...and, eventually, serve breakfast and lunch on a landscaped area in front of B & L Auto.

If, like me, you were asking, "Where's that?": looks like B & L Auto is where Middlefield and Old Middlefield split.

Haven't visited Mountain View in a while. Hope Larry was able to get his diner up and running. Have known Larry for a long time and can hardly wait to eat what I know will be the best sandwich I have ever had. Grew up in Mountain View in the 50's, 60' and 70's. Great, old establishments like Linda's, A&W and Foster's Freeze have been long gone and missed. Would love to see an old, original diner brought back to life in Mountain View.
