Walkability workshop perambulates Rengstorff

More than 30 people attended a workshop last Saturday at the Mountain View community center to discuss how to make the Rengstorff neighborhood more walkable.

Not sure I agree Rengstorff and Central are that big of a problem for walking as I walk there all the time without any issues.

I think the term walkable is misleading. Of course, the area is walkable. Pedestrian friendly is a better term.

If you've ever crossed any of our major intersections, you'll know they are not pedestrian friendly. The lights are too short at many and drivers impatiently make turns while pedestrians in the intersections, close by.

To get people out of cars for short trips, the city must be made more pedestrian and bicycle friendly. Otherwise, people will stay in their cars where they feel safer.
