How would Mountain View fare in an earthquake

Original post made by Resident, Whisman Station, on May 27, 2008

Looking at fault maps, it seems that Mountain View lies between the San Andreas and the Hayward fault. Are we far enough away from these faults to avert a major catastrophe? Which fault poses the greater danger to Mountain View? How about other natural disasters? Wildfires? Tsunamis? Could a rogue wave come down the bay and flood the city?
