Suicide attempt or botched burglary?

What initially appeared to be a grisly suicide attempt is more likely the result of a burglary gone terribly wrong, police said.

Well, since criminals are far more likely to be citizens or permanent residents, I'd hazard that (a) "yes", we're paying for his hospital expenses, and (b) "maybe", given that your average day worker is likely to at working class income or below, which is correlated with higher rates of criminality.

I presume that neither of these were veiled references to immigration status. Surely not.

Also, at risk of injecting fact into what surely would otherwise be a dialogue full of innuendo and baseless assertions, I point to one of many studies that demonstrate that crime and incarceration rates are lowest among immigrants - legal or otherwise.

@Dr - I think if you look more closely at the studies, you'll find that *getting caught* is what is lower.
