Officials at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System will officially open its newest development, the Mental Health Learning Center, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon, Aug. 21.

The $10 million center will support education and immersive training for staff to improve practices and procedures for mental health treatment, according to a press release.

It will include a dedicated computer training space for the center’s nursing education program and a large, open auditorium which can be divided up for several smaller events.

The center is one of several projects outlined in the $750 million reconstruction of the Palo Alto VA, the Veteran’s Health Administration’s largest health care system in Northern California.

U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the ceremony, which will be attended by other civic, government and health care professionals.
