This article uses the word "slam" many times. What does it mean? It may be obvious to a 20-something but not to a 50-something.

The best way to help orphans is to get rid of Mugabe. His corrupt rule is the problem. The country was better off economically under Ian Smith's Rhodesia!

Really, "resident"? Granted, Mugabe is a disgrace, and Zimbabwe would be better off under competent rule, but to somehow insist that things were better under Ian Smith -- who, after all, was fighting for a white-ruled government in a black-majority country -- is rather ludicrous.

dear UC Davis Grad,
You missed my point that Rhodesia had a better economy under Ian Smith. Obviously you are not a believer in a rising tide lifts all boats. Blacks economically were better off under Ian Smith but not politically. There is a big difference between the two. The fact that successful white farmers had their land expropriated by Mugabe and they escaped to South Africa or Australia hurts the blacks who used to work on those farms.

This is a classic case of what Dickens deplored and called "telescopic philanthropy." The narcissists behind this will step over homeless people on their own streets as if they do not exist and proceed to create tax shelters under the guise of helping exotic primitive people's abroad. It's disgusting. It's intensely racist, at it's core.

To resident(?): If you cannot get that without political right, economic rights are meaningless, that is TOTALLY on you.
And you really need to do actual research on the economic situation of blacks under the Smith regime, rather than relying on Rhodesian propaganda.
