Man arrested in bike theft

A 24-year-old Santa Clara man was arrested last week after he allegedly stole two bikes from a Mountain View apartment complex, and was later discovered by police in Sunnyvale.

Officers were called to the residence in the 900 block of Rich Avenue at around 1:15 a.m. on July 31 after receiving reports of a possible bike theft in progress. Witnesses reported what sounded like metal clanging, and spotted a man leaving the parking lot carrying two bicycles, according to police spokesperson Shino Tanaka. Police were not able to locate the suspect.

One hour later, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety contacted the Mountain View Police Department and reported that a man, identified as Jose Ibarra, was in possession of two bicycles in Sunnyvale. Witnesses confirmed Ibarra was the same person they saw carrying the bikes away from the apartment complex, and Ibarra was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
