A San Francisco police officer is recovering at home after a 25-year-old Mountain View man allegedly struck him with a vehicle and attempted to flee from the officer early Monday morning in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood, a police spokeswoman said.

The officer’s injuries are not life-threatening and he suffered no broken bones, San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said on Oct. 5.

The man suspected of striking the police officer with the vehicle and pinning him up against another vehicle has been arrested. He has been identified as Jaimes Ulises, according to Gatpandan.

Five other suspects were initially detained, but have since been released, Gatpandan said.

At approximately midnight, the officer arrived in the unit block of Mirabel Avenue, near Shotwell Street, to respond to a possible auto burglary, police said.

As the officer stepped out of his patrol vehicle, the suspect, who was sitting inside a white BMW 750i, attempted to run over the officer, according to police.

The suspect struck the officer, pinning him up against the patrol vehicle, according to police.

As the suspect attempted to flee in the vehicle, another officer in a vehicle arrived at the scene. The suspect then struck the second patrol vehicle but was unable to escape, police said.

Officers were able to immediately take the suspect into custody without further incident.

The injured officer was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was treated for injuries to his legs and ribs, police said.

Ulises was booked into San Francisco County Jail where he faces charges including attempted murder, recklessly evading a police officer, aggravated assault on a peace officer with a weapon, and carrying out a hit-and-run collision causing injury and property damage, among others.

  1. It’s fascinating to me how quickly attempted murder charges get filed when a cop is on the business end of an driver attempting assault in a car, but never when it’s a common person on a bike being assaulted, which happens far too much.

Also, cops are allowed to use deadly force when dealing with an assaulting driver. I would imagine if I decided to disable a driver attempting to assault me by dragging him out of his car and pinning him to the ground might even get me in trouble.

Get well soon officer, you guys are on the front lines. Much respect!

  2. So tell use how are you assaulted by cars on your bike? Has a car ever touched you? How many times has it happened? Could of you been at fault?

  3. Well, aside from the fact that you TOTALLY side skirted the issue in the hopes of playing “Blame the cyclist”, here’s all the answers to your questions. Hopefully you’ll answer mine:

So tell use how are you assaulted by cars on your bike?
I had a car try to side swipe me into a parked truck, slow down then come at me again where I had to ditch the bike over the curb and onto a lwn to avoid him. I had no interaction with him whatsoever prior to this.

Has a car ever touched you?
    Yes
How many times has it happened?
To me personally, 2 times that I call blatant. I can count 5 others from 1st hand accounts of friends. Maybe more if I think about it.

Could of you been at fault?
No these were psychos acting completely unprovoked. Though I can’t think of anything anyone would do aside from pulling a gun on the driver and firing that would justify him trying to run me down…twice, can you?

Now it’s your turn to answer:
Would you ever act this way and literally chase someone to try to run them down twice? How would someone provoke you to act this way? Personally, nothing would ever have me act that way in my car. Nothing ever.

  4. Oh, and to ensure those capable of actual mental focus, the topic is that cops get to use deadly force and get attempted murder charges filed. If I used deadly force in the above situation, I’d be in trouble, and if the cops had ever caught him (I filed a report) I doubt he would have had attempted murder dropped on him.

That’s the topic for those capable, but I’ll continue to feed trolls at my leisure if I find it amusing.

  5. Yah, I thought as much about getting an answer 😉 Sorry to shut you down so fast but I’m choosing not to do what you want. I’ll keep posting under this name though, so you’ll be able to tell its me. That way if you chose to read a post from someone you think that way about, well, it’s all on you; your choice so you can’t blame anyone else. That might be a new thing for you!

Try not to come off as the big bossy board guy who can only offer a “Shut up” when backed into a mental corner. Better yet, now that you’ll know it’s be, rise above and ignore. That’s what mature people do.

  6. That’s the topic for those capable, but I’ll continue to feed trolls at my leisure if I find it amusing.

BUUURRRPP. Eamonn, what were you saying?
