City of Mountain View Right to Lease Ordinance 2 Notices

Original post made by Hue Simpson, Another Mountain View Neighborhood, on Feb 3, 2016

Just to let people know that there is misinformation on the two notices sent from the City of Mountain View to all residents it seems; I am a tenant and apt mgr., owner got both notices also. The wrong information is in second paragraph where it states "For those rental units not under a written lease (month-to-month) on January 7, 2016, the landlord has until March 1, 2016 to offer a written lease." I have talked to a city clerk about this. She assured me that this information is wrong wrong wrong. It doesn't matter if you have a written month-to-month lease already in place as of January 1, 2016, (that's not a lease she says), landlord still must offer a written lease. It doesn't matter if all your tenants agreed to a month-to-month and have been here for years, you must both send them another copy of the notice with an application for another form of written lease. Note, this is not another rental application, but an application for another form of written lease (a new form to create or find...). ah, feels good to get this done; maybe nothing to most folks but the inaccuracy annoys me. Thanks for reading.
