Sheriff Laurie Smith announces she will retire at end of term

Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith, whose office is under a civil rights investigation by the state attorney general, on Thursday announced she is retiring at the end of her current term next January.

she ought to resign immediately! The foul stench of corruption surrounds her entire department. I don't see how any objective citizen could take seriously anything any member of that criminal enterprise has to say in a court room, if called to serve on a jury.
